Sydney Airport has two domestic terminals: Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 2 is smaller than Terminal 3, but caters to low-cost, domestic airlines like Virgin Australia, Jetstar, and Tigerair, making it a popular terminal for budget-conscious travellers.
Due to its focus on these carriers, it experiences a high volume of passengers, especially during peak travel times. Flyparks recommends arriving at T2 at least 1.5 to 2 hours before your flight's boarding time. This will give you ample time to check in, drop off luggage, pass through security, and navigate the terminal.
Arriving early also accounts for potential delays in security or long queues at the check-in counters, so you won't feel rushed before your flight.
The following airlines service Sydney’s domestic terminal, T2: Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Tiger, Fly Pelican, and Regional Express (REX). Qantas and QantasLink domestic flights operate out of T3, not T2.
You can find the check-in desks for the airlines operating out of this terminal on the ‘Departures’ level. Be sure to check with your airline as to how early their check-in desks open for bag drop and to receive your boarding passes.
Located on L3, the Virgin Australia lounge is open from 5:00 a.m. - 9 p.m. every day. To access the lounge, passengers must go through security and proceed to where the lounge is located, right outside the main security checkpoint within Sydney Airport Terminal 2.
The lounge is open 60 minutes before the first Virgin Australia flight until the airline's last flight call.
Located on L2, REX lounge is open from 5:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. every day.
Passengers must go through security before entering the lounge, located next to the G2 departure lounge.
To transfer between Sydney Airport Terminal 2 and any other terminal, passengers can take the complimentary shuttle bus known as the T-Bus, located at the Arrivals level outside each terminal. The shuttle drops passengers off at each terminal, including international terminal T1. The ride will take approximately 10 minutes and runs every 15 minutes between 5:30 and 21:30.
Travellers can also take the Airportlink between 5 a.m. - midnight, every day. While the Airportlink does cost $6.40 per person each way, it is only a 2-minute journey between terminals.
You can find the Airportlink underground, beneath each terminal. From the arrival hall, follow the train signs and take the lift or escalator to the station. You may purchase your ticket at a kiosk. Airportlink also connects travellers from the airport to city stations in Sydney.
Some airlines, like Qantas, have transfer services available to travellers, however, they do not operate out of T2 at Sydney Airport.
For travellers flying from T2 and looking for domestic terminal parking at Sydney Airport whilst away, consider parking with the cheapest provider will be Sydney Airport Express, which charges $155 for 1 week of parking, and is a 5-minute shuttle ride from T2.
Other alternatives are the P3 Car Park, a 6-minute walk to T2, and $495.20 for 1 week of parking, or the P2 Car Park, a 7-minute walk to T2 and $602.40 for a week of parking. Both are undercover car parks except the rooftops.

Drop-off bays are outside the departure level for both of Sydney’s domestic terminals, T2 and T3.
Vehicles can only use this bay to drop off passengers - they may not turn off their car, exit the vehicle, or remain in the bay for longer than 2 minutes or for any other purposes than dropping off travellers.
For those needing to store luggage, you can access Smartecarte Baggage Storage from 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. every day. The facility is located at the Arrival hall close to Carousel 6, and before you reach Gate 7
Yes, you can! Walking between T2 & T3 at Sydney Airport takes about 7 minutes.
You can expect a journey time of approximately 10 minutes via the complimentary shuttle bus, T-Bus, located outside the arrival hall.
This time does not account for wait time, which will differ depending on if you're travelling during a peak travel period or not.
T1 is designated for all international arrivals and departures out of Sydney.
Terminal 2 is designated for all domestic departures & arrivals out of Sydney Airport, except Qantas and Qantaslink domestic flights, which operates out of T3.
For those who booked their trip (and tickets) under one booking, generally, you will be checked in throughout all flights and your luggage will meet you at your final destination. However, each airline differs in its policy, so always double-check when dropping off your luggage at the check-in desk.
If you booked your tickets under different airlines and through separate bookings, you will likely need to collect and re-check your baggage at every destination until your final stop.
Expect to wait around 30 - 45 minutes to get through customs at Sydney Airport. If you have items to declare, it will take upwards of an hour.
If you are concerned about making a connecting flight, plan around 2 hours of wait time to be safe, especially if your connecting flights are not under the same booking.
