SYD Departures

How long does it take to get through Sydney Airport arrivals?

Upon landing at Sydney Airport, it typically takes 30 minutes to 1 hour to clear customs and immigration. However, factors like passenger volume, time of day, and whether you need to declare items can influence wait times. Travellers with small children or special items to declare may experience longer processing times due to manual customs checks.

💡TRAVEL TIP: To expedite the process, eligible passengers can utilize SmartGates, which uses facial recognition technology to streamline customs clearance. You can use SmartGates if you have an eligible e-passport, are over 16 years old, or are an Australian citizen aged 10–15 traveling with at least two adults. An e-passport can be identified by the small camera symbol on the front cover. SmartGates can significantly reduce wait times during busy periods by bypassing manual inspections.

During peak travel times, such as holidays or weekends, it’s a good idea to budget extra time to account for potential delays at customs and immigration checkpoints

Where to pick up domestic & international arrivals at Sydney Airport?

International Arrivals (T1):

Drivers can pick up passengers outside the T1 International Terminal in the designated pick-up bays. However:

  • Drivers must stay with their vehicles at all times.
  • Stopping time is limited to 1–2 minutes, after which attendants will ask drivers to move.

Domestic Arrivals (T2 & T3):

Domestic passengers can be picked up outside T2 or T3 terminals in the forecourt pick-up zones. Accessible pick-up and drop-off bays are also available and signposted near the main terminals.

🚗 Options for Longer Wait Times:

  • Priority Pick-Up Zones and Express Pick-Up Zones are available, but parking rates apply
  • Signs within the airport guide you to these zones, or you can pre-plan your route by checking the Sydney Airport parking maps online
  • For a smoother pick-up experience, consider using the airport's official app or website to track flight arrivals and updates on terminal locations

Is terminal 2 domestic or international at Sydney Airport?

How long do I need to be at Sydney Airport before an international flight?

To ensure a smooth experience before your international flight, Flyparks recommends arriving at Sydney Airport at least 3 hours before departure. This allows ample time to park your car, check in, clear security, and unwind before your flight. If you're parking at a car park located a short shuttle ride away from the terminals, plan to be there at least 15 minutes before your scheduled check-in time.

For convenience, note that check-in typically opens 3 hours before departure, but always check with your airline.
