Parking Tips: Mackay Airport

airport-parking-05b0f5-23

At Flyparks, we realise that for many people, parking at Mackay Airport might not be an everyday activity. Luckily, there are three official airport car parks to choose from, with rates to suit most budgets: the Short Term Car ParkLong Term Car Park, and Covered Car Park are all within walking distance of Arrivals and Departures, and you won’t need to leave a set of car keys with anyone.

Still, you might be a little nervous about booking online, unsure of how much to pay, or worried about finding a car park on the day of your flight. That’s why we’ve put together this short selection of Mackay Airport parking tips so that you can park safely, and find long-term parking at lowest price possible.

Tip 1. Leave Home Early

It can be difficult to find a free spot in airport parking facilities, especially around weekends and school holiday periods. If you haven’t reserved a space in advance, it’s best to leave home early and plan to arrive at the airport at least two hours before a domestic journey and three hours before an international flight. This will allow you a little extra time to drive around and look for an available space. We recommend examining a map of Mackay Airport, to familiarise yourself with the location of the terminal building concerning the car parks. This will help you to avoid the car parks that are on the opposite end of the airport, from where you need to be.

Of course, you can always pre-book your space online ahead of time, to make your trip to the airport a little easier. This will save you plenty of time, and not to mention stress, in the run-up to your holiday. Budget airport parking can and does sell out, so booking in advance can also assist in securing the best rates, and saving you from having to park in a premium lot.

Tip 2. Plan Ahead!

To secure the best price for Mackay Airport parking, it pays to plan. As soon as you’ve booked your departure flight, you can book your airport parking. It’s easy to amend your return date or flight number later on if you’re unsure of when you’re due back home. To give you an idea of how much money you can save by booking online, you can check our price comparison table below. We’ve compared the booking rates for all three of Mackay Airport’s official car parks, so you can see the difference for stays of various lengths. Tip 3. Booked Online? Don’t Tap Your Credit Card!

When it comes to parking at Mackay Airport, it’s important to note that your Flyparks booking won’t be linked to your credit card. This makes it easier to enter the car park since you won’t have to keep note of which card you used when booking, or even have the card on you, on your day of travel. Instead, you’ll need to press the ‘Help’ button on the intercom by the entrance barrier, so that you can quote your booking number to a member of staff. Once they’ve taken down your booking details, they’ll let you into the car park - a process that is repeated upon exit.

If you tap your credit card instead, you may be charged twice for parking. Once for your online booking, and then again at drive-up rates. Try to avoid this simple but expensive mistake, by following the instructions on your booking confirmation email. If you do accidentally take a ticket, press the ‘Help’ button on the intercom at any pay station. Don’t pay for the ticket - the car park staff will be able to assist you. If you have any other issues, please feel free to contact Flyparks customer service.

Tip 4. Consider Cancellation Insurance

Flyparks strongly recommends protecting your financial investment in your airport parking booking by purchasing cancellation insurance. By adding this to your parking reservation, you will be able to cancel your booking right up until the minute you’re expected to arrive at the car park. You’ll still be entitled to a full refund of the booking price, minus the cost of the insurance, regardless of your reason for cancelling. Perfect for situations where you’re unsure of whether your trip is still going ahead, and fear that your flight or cruise might be called off.

Tip 5. Worried About Your Car? Consider Covered Parking

If you plan on driving a new or classic car to the airport, you may want to consider covered parking. There’s a Covered Car Park at Mackay Airport which offers protection against weather damage - whether from wind, rain, or sun. Sure, it costs a few dollars extra, but it might save you a lot of money in the long run, if you compare it to the cost of windscreen repair and panel beating.

Did you know that the average price of a windscreen repair callout is $70.00? And that’s just to fix a chip or crack, smaller than a $2 coin. A full windscreen replacement could cost between $200.00 and $400.00 for a standard sedan, or, if you have a newer car, with features such as rain sensor infrared technology, anywhere from $800.00 to $1,200.00. Why not protect your car, by parking in the Covered Car Park, and enjoy complete peace of mind when you travel?
